Monday after I wrote you guys we slept for a little and then got back to work. We visited with an old investigator named Alexandra and that went well! She says that she knows what we´re teaching is true but SHE WONT GO TO CHURCH! gah! she has a Tienda (store) and she says it´s really important to her and Sunday mornings are apparently really busy for her. :-/
After her we had another appointment with Carmen and her kids and we found out her issue with baptism! (YAAAAY) She´s addicted to cigarettes (BOOO). Hermana Blas and I are really sad cause we want her to progress but she just isn´t so we dropped her as a real investigator and we´re only just gunna keep in touch from time to time :(
Tuesday was JUST CONTACTING. we´re trying to find new people cause we have like NO investigators. NO ONE progressing. Changes are in just 2 weeks and both Hermana Blas and I feel like WE CAN´T LEAVE haha our work here is SO not done!
Wednesday we did more contacting and also met with a few less active members. One is a kid named Alex and the pobresito (poor little thing) is like 13 and his parents are getting divorced and he is SO sad. We just sat and talked with him and read the Book of Mormon with him too and wow. I hope he is doing okay, he was at church on Sunday so thats a good thing! :) After him we met with Doris, another old investigator, she also owns a tienda and so it´s hard for her to come to church. but she´s SO sweet to us! she´s got a little 3 year old girl and a husband who doesn´t like us verry much so thats cool! haha whenever we enter into the tienda, he exits. yikes...
Thursday ROCKED! Hermana Blas and I had splits with the Sister Leaders. MY FIRST ONES! the other sisters sector is SO much smaller than ours and FLAT too! My comp for the day was Hermana Mollo and shes SO cute! she´s been here for 9 months and she really helped me feel good about myself because WOW should would not stop complimenting me! haha! she was all like: ´´I think Americans are SO pretty!, You have SUCH beautiful eyes! and they´re SO green! and wow! look at those lashes! You have such a great singing voice too! you should join the Tabernacle Choir! Speaking of voices your accent is AMAZING! AND you can roll your R´s none of the other americans can do that! WOW!" and she just kept going! haha but of course it was all in Spanish! I wanted to compliment her back but i didn´t have the words! haha yikes! I gave hera big old hug at the end of our splits though! shes amazing :)
Friday I was back in my sector and back to finding people! haha it was getting close to Sunday so we were trying to find people to come to church with us and it just wasn´t really happening. It was Valentines day and we kept seeing THE CUTEST couples and men with flowers and all sorts of cuteness and Hermana Blas just hated it! heehee yikes! But it was nice to spend a valentines day NOT completely depressed with ice cream and sweats and PJs! BUT GUESS WHAT! we got to talk to Doris´s Esposo (hubby)! He stopped to talk to us cause my last name is Gamble and his is Gamboy and in an Ecuadorian accent it´s pretty much the same. we just sorta talked to him and invited him to church and to talk to his wife about all we had taught her and then he left.
Saturday was interesting. I met my first person who literally has no belief in God what so ever. uhhhh... WHAT?! I wanted to be like "you´re telling me that I´ve been going through the hardest months of my life because I believe in something that doesn´t even exist?!...how about no!" haha for once I was SO glad I didn´t know Spanish well enough to talk to someone. I could have gone off forever! I didn´t understand everything he said be he did say ´"No Ver, No Creer" which is basically saying "seeing is believing" and All I could say to him was " si Dios no es real, por que soy aqui? por que? yo tengo mis padres, mi famila, mis amigos, mi cama, mi TODO in Utah. Pero soy aqui. Con Usted. todo porque Dios quiere esta." Which in English is " If God doesn´t exist then why am I here? why? I have my parents, my family, my friends, my bed, my EVERYTHING in Utah. But I´m here, with you, all because God wants this." And he was silent. Hermana Bas said something else in Spanish that I didn´t catch and then he went off again but he wasn´t yelling or anything just letting us know what he thought. at the end of our talk he did say however that he felt nice and peaceful when he talked to us and he thinks we´re great people, he just doesn't believe in God. and then he gave us chocolate. haha! He´s actually a really cool dude! He just needs some fine tuning....Hermana Blas called him a "esperando milagro" or basically a "miracle waiting to happen."
Sunday was LOOONG like Sundays always are but you´ll never guess who showed up to church... Mr. Gamboy!! remeber him? the Husband of Doris? like WHAT?! He could only stay for Sacrament meeting but CHA. HE CAME. MIRACLE. WAHOO. my heart did a little dance when I saw him roll up on his motorcycle!
Another miracle that happened on Sunday is that We were tracting and we were finding no one and we stopped to pray and I said it and I asked SPECIFICALLY that the next house we knocked on would have a family that we could teach. and BAM! ask and ye shall receive...we found a family! they are SO nice! There names are Sandra (momma), Kimberly (18), Eric (16), and Kelly (9). They father wasn´t home but YAY! a family! we taught them the first lesson and they were so interested and so curious and asking SO many questions and understanding it SO well and then we invited them to be baptised and CRASH. they got all shy and hesitant and sorta...meh. which made me SO sad. PLEASE pray for them! I want them to progress SO bad. The Familia Chuga.
And that brings us to Today! I´m doing much better really, that's not so say that this isn´t hard anymore cause it is, and I´m pretty sure it always will be but I every time i make a mistake i try to learn from it, repent, and move on and I´m growing a lot!
Spanish word of the week: "Ahorita" which directly translated means " little now" everyone here says it and I LOVE IT! haha This time we have now is SO little. The Time that I have to be a missionary is SOOO little. I have to make the most of it.(thanks Mr. Nagro for teaching me to analyze EVERYTHING...)
That's basically all for this week. 2 MONTHS DOWN! only 16 more to go and I hope I can make the most of every second!
OH! something I´m proud of this week. I FINISHED THE BOOK OF ALMA! YAYY! I started it in the CCM and it´s taken FOREVER! my favorite part was about the 2000 stripling Warriors. I could help but picture all of my missionary friends in armor and shields with swords and what not, haha!
One scripture hat caught my attention especially was Alma 53:2 It talks about two friends and it says that they were with each other for "the more part of (their) battles" and they "rejoiced in each others safety" and, as usual, I thought of my friends. I´m SO BLESSED! and I can´t express enough thanks to my father for that. I find SO much comfort in the fact that I have friends on the other side of the word doing exactly what I´m doing. As I go to bed for the night, they rise in the morning and go to work. and vice-versa!
PLEASE read the scriptures. THESE STORIES ARE SO COOL! I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!
Hermana Gamble
