WOW this week flew by! I seriously feel like i wrote you guys YESTERDAY!
Things really are getting MUCH better. I`m really starting to adjust to life here. the people, the culture, the language, EVERYTHING! I love it :)
Okay, so last Monday after I wrote you guys and we got back to work at 6 we went contacting cause all of our current investigators were busy and such. it was POURING rain (like...it rains here almost everyday but not like that. It was CRAZY!!) so ya..contacting in the rain and man, I was not feeling it. I ate a TON of junk earlier in the day and my will to work was at an all time low. It didn`t help that no one was listening to us either. Needless to say, a prayer was in order. I said a prayer in my heart that I would have a better attitude and that we could be guided to someone to teach. and THE MOMENT that I changed my attitude i had a thought that told me that we should try this one house near ours that we had thought about contacting before but it was really late so we didn´t. I suggested it to Hermana Blas and she was on board so we made our way there, contacting (and finding no one) on the way. We arrived and knocked on the door and the father of the house answered and we could hardly say "Hi! we`re missionaries for the chur-" before he was like "Entra, no mas!" I just looked at H. Blas and she was just as wide-eyed as I was. we came in and got to talking with the whole family and as it turns out THREE OF THE FIVE ARE MEMBERS!!! they got baptized like 3 years ago but the had to move and when they arrived they didn`t know what to do or where to go for church so they stopped! The youngest kid was only 6 so she was too young to be baptized and the dad never wanted to get baptized so those two aren`t members but WHAT?!?! are you serious?! we literally walk past that house EVERYDAY on the way to the bus stop. H. Blas and I had a FIESTA! we taught them lesson 2 cause we were out of pamphlets for lesson 1 and we offered them a baptismal date and they ACCEPTED! the daughter accepted right away and the dad was a little hesitant but YAY! they`re our new "project" of sorts :)
and that was only MONDAY!
Tuesday was my 2 month mark YAY! It feels weird to think I`ve been a missionary for 2 whole months.. It feels shorter...but longer too...GAH what is time?!? I don`t even know any more!
Wednesday was FABULOUS! And is all started with lunch at my new favorite restaurant called "Los Pollos" or "The Chickens" haha its Delicioso!!
After lunch we went and contacted in a part of the city that we didn`t even know was our sector...It`s officially our sector is LARGER THAN LIFE. anyway, we didn`t really find much but we talked with A LOT of people...ya know...plantin' seeds!! After we contacted for a little it started to POUR again so we decided to go visit some recent converts and they were fabulous! they always feed us really yummy food :) After our little lesson we went with them to do a Noche de Horgar or Family Home Evening with the new family that we found, the Familia Herrera and WOW! we had SO many members there! the Bishop and EVERYTHING! they were all so nice and smiley and PERFECT for that family :) I`m so thankful for all the help we get from our ward :)
Thursday was ROUGH! We were contacting in El Conde again (the new place) and we found this man who invited us in to talk with him and we ere just asking him questions, ya know, trying to get to know him and we asked "how the relationship with your Family?" and he replied "GREAT!" then he looks at me and says, really creepily "and you? hows the relationship with your boyfriend?!" and that's when I was like uhh...time to go! I explained to him that as missionaries we don`t have boyfriends but when we return home we are able to date again. He didn`t really understand but we decided to move on! We asked him why he was so willing to let us in and then he said "Because you are both young girls and you have the word of God, two things that I like very much." and that's when I was like YUP we`re leaving now. But H. Blas was so happy that someone had actually let us in that she didn`t want to leave. So we sat and had a whole lesson with the man, he didn`t understand ANYTHING we told him and he kept bringing up the Virgin Mary and Baby Jesus! When we left H. Blas was like "I think he could progress! What about you?" I wanted to be like "hun are you crazy?!" haha but all I said was..."mmmm...en verdad, no" she was all "Por Que?!" haha it was pretty funny!
Friday was a great day. I spoke SO much Spanish and we had some really great lessons! We have this Issue where we teach like 6 new people EVERY DAY but no one really wants to get baptized or come to church or change anything. We keep running out of the pamphlets for lesson 1 and we get a new pack of 25 like EVERY WEEK! AY! we are teaching SO many people...hopefully just planting seeds!
Saturday was..well I`ll explain. We had one lesson with the lady who owns the internet cafe that i`m at right now ans she has 3 really young kids so it didn't go to well but after that we ate lunch at Los Pollos again YAY! and after that we went and chatted with Carmen and Jondry (remember them? the lady who has a cig problem?!) Yeah we talked with them and ..drum roll please.. JONDRY IS GETTING BAPTIZED! we got permission from Carmen and his date is set for the 8th of March JUST in time for transfers. YAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYA YAYAYAYAYAYYAYAYA!!! So that made my day. and to top it all off we had a FHE with a less active family and they are like...OUR family. H. Blas and I just LOVE them and they are SO nice! and we visit them a lot :) anyway we had a lesson about temples and I told them that I have like 4 within 30 mins of my house and they were AMAZED! haha but after the lesson the mom of the house, Hermana Esperanza, just looked at H. Blas and I and started to cry! she kept saying that we were like family to her and she didn`t want either of us to leave and that when she looked at us she saw us like her children and then her husband started saying the same thing and H. Blas and I just LOST it! All of us were crying out eyes out! haha even her 17 year-old son shed a tear or two! I couldn`t say much to them cause I was having a hard time speaking as it was but trying to say it all in Spanish was nearly impossible but I just told her that when I look at them I see my parents, and when I look at her kids I see my siblings. Cause it`s true! they are so much like you guys! and I`m so thankful for them! they have made this change a lot easier on me :)
Sunday was WAY chill...which is sorta rough in the life of a missionary cause you always want to be busy as a missionary! But Sunday was the day of elections for...governor...or mayor..or president...or something important. Needless to say we only had one our of church and then NOTHING. H. Blas and I had no one to go to so we went back to our casa and studied for a little and then tried to find someone to go to for lunch and there was no one so we just made our one food. yummmmmmmm. not. the people here are fabulous cooks and I missed eating my weight in rice. :( but it`s all good! we ended up trying to do some contacting which failed miserably and then we went and visited a family and then they accompanied us to go and visit the Familia Herrera but only the mom was home. We still had a pretty great lesson with her though cause she`s a member and we talked with her about how she needs to be the example to her husband and she really took it to heart I think :)
And that brings us to today! Pretty normal so far! although we did some grocery shopping and on the bus ride home ti was SO packed and the bus drivers here are crazy and 5 of my 8 eggs got cracked and THAT'S lame. oh well!
This week I`ve been doing a lot of studying the the New Testament cause tomorrow we have zone conference (MY FIRST ONE!) and it was something that Prez wanted us to do. but I REALLY like the book of John out of all the Gospels his is for sure my favorite! Chapters 12-16 are really special. Its an account of some of the last words that Jesus said to his apostles and it`s really beautiful! GREAT advice and SO much love!
Also, dad wrote me about in the book of Mosiah, The story of Abinadi. As missionaries we LOVE that story cause a lot of times out here we feel like everything we do is for nothing..and we do A LOT! but when I think of that story it gives me SO much strength! Everyone that I talk to, weather they`re receptive or not, is one step closer to the church! EVERYONE! It amazes me how the savior works his little miracles! One day down the road some other greenie missionary is gunna be in my sector and is going to talk to someone and they`re gunna remember the other little scared white girl who didn`t know any Spanish and maybe they`ll invite them in to here a little bit about why all these crazy Americans keep knocking on their door!
This work is so crazy! Crazy hard, and crazy AMAZING! I see little miracles everyday and I hope all of you get to do the same! I invite you guys to pray and ask God to help you notice the little miracles in your lives!
Con MUCHO, MUCHO amor!
Hermana Gamble :)
